Plan of Action

Plan of Action

I love that the beginning of each day of our OWP four week course, we began as writers. We took an idea and wrote for an hour. It was amazing and inspiring. I began to wonder how my voice as a writer had started and even better, where it could go. It guided me through my classroom lessons and how I should create more sacred writing time for my students. But once again, is it just enough if I do it? Or should we be working as a school to create a community of writers?

To begin, I'd like to create a Teacher's Writing Club. I feel like so many of us would benefit by meeting, even if virtually, and compose together. If we value each other as writers, we'll begin to share that community with our students. We can explore articles about writing and begin to implement changes to our classrooms. One small step.

If this goes well, perhaps we can begin a publication for our students. It could be completely online and shared with our monthly newsletter. We can encourage our students to create while we handle the publishing at the beginning. Our school is K-4, but as we've learned, there's power in all forms of writing.

Should this go well, I could see a small group presenting our lessons, ideas, and publications during school wide professional development. Teachers Teaching Teachers. The motto of OWP, creating the ripple of change.

Once again, this requires implementation, time, and willingness from the teachers. This is my plan for achieving my goal of fostering a writing community in my classroom, school, and district.
